P's in a Pod: Nascar Racing Experience

For Christmas 2010 I received a gift certificate to drive a NASCAR at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Long story and a couple of cancellations/rain-outs later, I finally got to go. It was originally supposed to be Me, my dad, my brother Trip, and my brother-in-law Aaron, but some things have changed since we got the present. Trip got a real job, and had an industry wide convention he had to attend. Aaron and Ashley moved to San Francisco. Stinks for them, good for Alisa and my mom.

There are many things in life that you have expectations for when you go to do them, very few exceed expectations like this experience did. We drove the cars by ourselves, no instructors inside with us only a radio spotter. The day started out with a training class and a nervous wife. Real NASCAR's are 4 speeds and Alisa doesn't really do manual transmissions. She had a quick cram session and succeeded with flying colors. We all got 5 laps and had a blast! Unfortunately no photos from inside the cars, that was frowned upon, but we do have some photos in our awesome firesuits. Matt's top lap was 144.6 mph and Alisa's was 137.4 mph. We both got to pass another car which was awesome!
